HOLOCAUST or HOLOHOAX…??

September 17, 2019

If you are not familiar with the social networking group “GAB”, I recommend you take a visit there. This morning the site is once again under massive attack, presumably DDOS. Depending on your experience, outlook, and politics this is either a sad thing, a good thing, or a who-cares-anyway non-issue.
I care. But then I have made many useful contacts there, and I help admin several groups. Chief among which are:
“The Coming European Civil War(s)”
and
“The Holocaust:  Fact, Fiction, or a Mix of both?”

I have posted a lot there. The first group has over 3,000 members from all over the world.
But we have problems.  Let's look at them in turn.

1)  GAB goes down a lot.

The cynics allege incompetence in the design. Most of us however believe the founder, Andrew Torba, that the problem is massive sabotage. Denial-of-Service bot attacks.  And most of us also suspect that's because an open and free Internet is seen as threat. By who, you ask? That's a whole discussion. We'll get into it.

2) The site is great for making contacts, getting responses, but bad for archiving.

What happens on the GOOD side, is that you can post something, and have dozens of reactions in a matter of minutes. You will quickly fall in with smart people who know more than you do,
in specific areas, and you will learn a lot. I know I did. The BAD side is that everything gets BURIED. That's a common complaint, not just about GAB. Trying finding stuff back. It's… down THERE…. somewhere.
GAB is great for immediate response.
GAB is cr*p for information retrieval or archiving.

3)  Memes.

I have a love-hate relationship with memes, and people who post them. Often they are kind of “funny-ha-ha”,(“and now please go away”).  But no, (wait-for-it, wait-for-it) he's going to be back with another twenty memes. Adding to the almighty clutter. Sometimes I wonder:  “Does the whole world not read anymore? They only look at MEMES?”   I once made a slightly negative comment about memes. Holy Moly. Venom poured down on me.
Then again… once in a while, I see a meme that has me sitting up. (“Is that TRUE? I didn't know that…”). And I have gone off and researched it, and (blow me down), the meme artist was right, and damn right.
So there IS a place for memes.

Conclusion:

I'm going to try and develop a better retrieval database & archiving system for my stuff (for starters) here on Writers' Harbor. I don't know exactly how that's going to work out, at all, but I have in mind a page like www.chopperstories.com

And we'll go from there.
